On Saturday, April 4th, 2025, my wife and I joined, in person, with hundreds of people in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and nationwide, in spirit, with what may have been nearly a million people in the Hands Off gatherings in solidarity across the country.
I like the spirit of hope the demonstrations represented, particularly the end quote that supports it. Hope, however small - re your title - is still hope. This morning I thought that what we really need to happen is for the Republicans to get angry enough by the tariffs to stop him. I wish I could trust the Democrats to do that but I can't. Personally, my dreams are of a coup. Vive la Résistance!
Sheri, Thanks for reading. Your hope that the Republicans will get angry has some small support. For a quick summary see Heather Cox Richardson's Letters from an American today. My fear is that ultimately that change of heart (attitude) may be a bridge too far for them.Perhaps it may only be a fear about being kicked out of office in 2026 that will motivate them. A fear perhaps greater than their fear of the Felon-in-Chief.
